青春期的女孩開始有了美醜意識，開始在意他人對自己的外貌評價，而童年的玩具之一——芭比娃娃，帶來的影響佔了很大一部分。

而父母對孩子的教育通常是訓誡，但其實這個時期的孩子想要的其實只是關懷與認同。

很多學校會對女孩的服裝設立規定，要求女孩不能露出過多的「皮膚」，像是裙子不能高於膝蓋上、不能穿無袖或是背心等等，就好像女孩子的身體是一種恥辱，應該要通通藏起來一樣。

我很喜歡“Instead of making me feel bad for the body I got Just teach him to keep it in his pants and tell him to stop”這段歌詞，很多時候遭到性騷擾甚至性侵害的受害者，會被質疑是他們自己的服飾「過於暴露」、穿著打扮「不檢點」才會遇到這些事，讓受害者遭到二次傷害，社會大眾卻不譴責真正的加害者。

在電影裡可以看到Crybaby在一個漂亮的蛋糕裡，Mel也說這一幕是在比喻社會對於女孩子身體的印象，就像一道（隨處可見的）甜點而不是一件應當得到尊重且有無上價值的藝術品。
